Frequently Asked Questions
I am not sure whether my son/daughter should attend the Mini Program or the Premier Program...what is the difference between the two?
It is difficult for No. 1 Soccer Camps to determine levels of play of campers prior to their attendance at camp. Regardless of the program selected, Mini, Premier, Academy or the College Prep Program, all campers are evaluated for small group placement initially on the basis of age, size and ability.
Adjustments to group placement are made throughout the week(s). Instruction at the small group level as well as incidental teaching is done with the performance level and capabilities of the camper at the forefront. Being able to judge whether or not learning is taking place and whether to accelerate or slow down the process is an outcome of our 30+ years of experience.
The decision between the Mighty Mini Program and the Premier Program should be based on the camper's previous sleep away camp experience, his/her parent's schedule and financial concerns, etc. and not on preconceived notions of levels of play. No. 1 Soccer Camps will modify and adjust levels of instruction and competition to best meet the needs of the camper.
What lessons will I miss if I attend a five-day camp session instead of a six-day camp session?
The decision of whether to send your son or daughter to either a 5-day/4-night or 6-day/5-night No. 1 Soccer Camps session is an interesting one.
Obviously, the shorter camp session is less expensive and less intense in terms of length of stay. This might be a consideration for a younger camper or one who has not been away from home before in an overnight camp environment. The schedule might better fit the vacation or other needs of the camper's family.
Certain aspects of the No. 1 Soccer Camps program will be eliminated in order to provide a program with a fitting beginning and conclusion. Campers at the 5-day/4-night session, therefore, are likely to have the following excluded from their schedule:
-
For Goalkeepers
- forward/backward diving
- shootout lesson/practice/contest
- dealing with end line crosses
-
For Strikers
- shootout lesson/practice/contest
- possession/combination play
Where possible, depending upon the make-up of the group, the speed of learning, the amount of available daylight, the weather and other factors, the above units will be attempted to be made-up. However, under no circumstances will units be shortened to accommodate this attempt. A key factor in No. 1's success at fostering learning in an atmosphere of fun is the ample time given to match related exercises and games, which promulgate the learning process. This time cannot be shortened!
My son/daughter is 13 years old and will be in eighth grade next fall... can he/she attend the Academy Program for high school age players?
If your son/daughter has attended the No. 1 Soccer Camps Premier Program previously, he/she may automatically register for the Academy Program. If your soccer player is a first time camper at No. 1 Soccer Camps, please review the following: The first several field sessions at each campsite are an evaluation of each player's ability for the purpose of group placement. The evaluation is ongoing until a competitive group is formed where age, size and ability are taken into consideration. Those campers who are age 13, but have not yet finished the eighth grade fall in-between parameters set for the Premier and Academy programs.
Parents of these potential campers should sign their 13 year-old camper up for the Premier Program and indicate on the Camper Profile Form that there may be a concern that the player will not be challenged in his/her group at camp. If through the evaluation process it is believed that the camper should be moved from the Premier Program to the Academy Program, such move will be made. The No. 1 Soccer Camps staff is very experienced in this regard and must be trusted that whatever decision is made it is made with the best interest of the individual camper and other campers in mind.
If such a move from the Premier Program to the Academy Program is made, the additional tuition fee shall be collected accordingly at the end of the camp session.
What is the difference between the Academy Program and the College Prep Program?
The Academy Program is a one week session open to high school aged players that incorporates the complete Premier Program with the addition of several advanced sessions designed for players who are considering playing soccer at the collegiate level. The College Prep Program is a two-week program for high school players. The first week follows the curriculum of the Academy Program and the second week is designed to follow a college pre-season schedule with advanced sessions involving team play, group tactics leading to 11-A-Side, match analysis and more.
If I attend a Mini Camp and I love it so much I want to finish the week in the Premier camp, can I?

Can I attend the second week only of the College Prep Program?
No. 1 Campers are not permitted to join the College Prep Program during the second week. The curriculum follows a progressive format. Entry in the middle of the program is not conducive to a positive No. 1 Camps experience.
Can I attend the camp as a goalkeeper and a striker?
No. 1 Campers must choose to participate as either a goalkeeper or a striker. Many campers attend one session as a goalkeeper and a second session as a striker.
I am a defender... is this the right camp for me?

Can Strikers and Goalkeepers room together and how much time will they spend together during the day?
