No. 1 Soccer Camps Testimonials

John Bacon - 2011
Father of Jack - Academy Player at the Pomfret School in Connecticut
This past August marked the first time that my son Jack had attended an overnight soccer camp.  Getting ready to enter high school, he had also set a personal goal to make the varsity soccer team as a freshman - a tall order in our school.  So, we decided that a week long camp would help improve his goalkeeping skills and get him ready for the upcoming tryouts.  We looked for something goalkeeper-specific and No. 1 Soccer Camps fit the bill.  Jack loved the intensity of the field sessions.  He also says that the detail of the technical instruction was better than any clinic he had previously attended.  On top of all that, he made new friends from around the northeast that he keeps in touch with via texting and facebook.  He came out of the No. 1 camp breathing fire.  His desire to play had gotten stronger over the week.  Fortunately, his premier team was scheduled to play in a tournament that very weekend and Jack played his heart out.  His team made it to the championship game which went to a shootout.  Sure enough, Jack used his No. 1 training on reading penalties and saved the final attempt, securing a tournament victory.  He went on to make the varsity as a freshman, too, eventually becoming the starter midway through the season. Jack will be the first to tell you that his training at No. 1 Soccer Camps in Pomfret CT took his performance to another level.

Alan Goth - 2011
Father of Stephen - Fountain Valley School in Colorado Springs

I just wanted to send a HUGE thank you to you and your team.  Stephen had an amazing time and is already talking about coming back next year.  He really liked all the kids and coaches and can't stop talking about the whole experience.  On a separate note, I have to praise his coach for the very thorough evaluation he provided.  It obvisoulsy took a lot of time to prepare and included some great observations and suggestions for Stephen to work on to continue to develop his game.  Well done and thank you so much!

I attended the camp in Claremont, CA for 7 years in a row.  Every summer I looked forward to going to camp.  Each day was filled with soccer, soccer, soccer...however each session was a learning experience!  I had the chance to attempt many new techniques and skills, such as the diving header.  The dining and housing was excellent, and we also took visits to the pool.  I met many people who I still keep in touch with, and I had the opportunity to get coached by top notch coaches and players!  My experiences at this camp are unforgettable and have made me a better player!!!  Thank you No. 1 Soccer Camps.

Shirley Almanza - 2010
Mother of Striker Caleb and Goalkeeper Anthony, Campers at the University of Dallas

I have two sons that have attended No. 1 Soccer Camps for several years in a row, one striker/defender '96 and one goalkeeper '95.  They have a great passion for soccer and are exceptional players.  They have also attended other camps during the summer including ODP and SMU and we believe yours is the most intense training and by far our player's favorite.  We consider your camp to be a huge factor in their soccer success at this point.

Our Striker/Defender:  has broken a city record in the 1600 meter track with no track training only soccer; was asked to go to ODP camp and train up/play with an age group up; made a very competitive team that is a year older than him.
Our Goalkeeper:  made a very competitive soccer team.  He started playing at age 11 and other players his age were levels above him on the playing field.  No. 1 Soccer Camps was the first camp he attended and we believe that this camp took him to the level he needed to be to win a spot on a competitive team.  He was transformed at this camp.

Maldonado - 2009
Mother of Adriana, Premier Camper at Claremont McKenna College in California
My daughter is the primary goal keeper for our team.  She has attend No. 1 Soccer Camps for two years now and is planning on attending again this year.  We researched many, many camps and all of them catered primarily to the field players with some time set aside for goalie traiing.  We chose this camp, specifically, because of the focused goalie training they provided.  The training she received at this camp has allowed her to step up her game on the field.  She has learned to be more of a leader on her team and to become a more pivvtal player on the field in her goal keeper position.  What she liked most, besides the food was working in small groups with the same coach for the whole week.  She picked up new skills that she applied immediately during our first tournament following the camp stay.  She also loved the competition during the goalie wars and was thrilled to be the goalie war winner for the youngsters.  She can't wait for this summer and will be attending the Goalie Academy program.  Thanks so much for this type of training, especially for goal keepers!  We tell every serious soccer player this is the camp at attend!
Mark Kibler - 2009
Father of Patrick, Premier Camper at the Darlington School in Rome, GA
I am writing to thank all involved in this past summer's camp at the Darlington School.  My son Patrick, by his own words, had an awesome week.  The staff were all qualified to teach the game, and the director Chad Liddle was there everyday, making sure things were running smoothly.  I myself was able to watch several of the training sessions and was impressed.  I believe the expereince has made Patrick a better palyer.  Thank you again.

Nicole Mento - 2009
Academy Camper at The George School in Newtown, PA
I attended No. 1 at The George School for the past two years.  Both years I went for goalie training.  The staff was great, and the training was amazing.  I'm also glad I was exposed to such a positive atmosphere.  I must say, after the first year, I was doing better than ever.  Though the second year was just doing the same thing as before, I was at a different level.  I found myself saving shots I never thought possible.  On my soccer team this year, I was goalie.  I've never done better.  I was getting compliments from coaches and parents of opposing teams.  It's a great confidence booster being told you're the best goalie in the league from people you don't even know!  Thanks to the training of No. 1, I am currently being scouted for an Elite team that's third in PA state rankings.  I am proudly planning on attending again this upcoming summer.  Thank you so much for everything your staff has taught me.

Anne Prouty - 2009
Mother of Ansen Burr, Academy Camper at Linfield College in McMinville, Oregon
Ansen has been to a LOT of camps over the years, but none come close to No. 1 Soccer Camps in terms of instruction, constructive feedback, and building confidence.  Other camps sometimes have an agends, like raise monies for their college or high school sports programs.  No. 1's mission is clear; to make the most of a week of pure soccer.  Where other programs work on a skill and then say yea, that's fine, No. 1 breaks down the skill and gives the players immediate feedback and you will practive until it is done correctly.
No. 1 gives players the confidence and motivation to continue working on those skills after they go home.  The evaluation is remarkably and refreshingly honest and accurate.  No. 1 clearly knew my child's strengths as well as weaknesses and I appreciate that the coaches were very clear about things that need to be done to become a better player.  I am convinced that the week spent at No. 1 Soccer Camps is the reason Ansen made varsity soccer at her high school as a sophomore despite being a three sport athlete and not really having time to play club ball.

Wayne Coffee - 2009
Father of Samantha, Academy Camper at Western Connecticut State University
My daughter had one of the best weeks of her soccer playing life at No. 1 last summer in Danbury.  The quality of instruction, the organization of the drills, the dedication of the staff - all aspects of the program were absoutely first rate, and made a big difference in her level of play.  Though my daughter was a bit daunted at the intensity of the schedule initially, Irwin and other counselors did a brilliant job of keeping fun in the equation and making the hours fly by.  I believe my daughter's exact words at the end of the week were I am so coming back here net year.  That's the best testimonial of all.

Kacy Dunn - 2008 US Youth Soccer Association Goal of the Year - Second Place
Letter from Mom to Directors at Monterey Bay
Hi Mike and Bill,
Just wanted to drop you a line and thank you for all of your efforts in supporting Kacy for the US Youth Soccer Assoc. Goal of the Year.  She ended up in second place and was thrilled.  However, she has her sights set on the 2009 Goal of the Year and is determined to do a bicycle or some kind of impressive volley to earn the title.
She will most likely attend the Monterey camp but we are just waiting for the final schedule for the ODP Regional Camp.  She made the state pool for her '96 Girls age group and will attend the regional camp in July.  I believe that it is scheduled to end on the 19th and it's in Stockton so she wouldn't have to travel too far to get to Monterey.  She is so exicited about going to your camp again and we're just making sure that the timing will all work out.
Thanks again to all of you.  Kacy loves No. 1 Soccer Camps and has learned so much.  She talks about the camp all of the time and is in the process of recruiting some more of her teammates to attend this year.  Again, Kacy's nomination for the 2008 goal has so much to do with all that she learned at your camp over the last few years.
     Best regards, Robyn Ramos
Scott Saunders - 2008
Father of Spencer, Camper at Western Connecticut State University
The competition for goalkeeper camps, as you know, has inceased since I went in the 70's, but when Spencer became of age there was no doubt where I would send him.  His first year as a goalkeeper at your camp, he came back and was selected for the premier team in southeast Connecticut.  His second year at your camp, he was selected to the Ct. ODP program and now it is his third year, we can't wait to see what is next.
I have seen the goalkeeper program evolve since day one.  The soccer training from you and your staff is by far the best.  What has changed my life and I'm seeing these same attributes in Spencer is learning about dedication, commitment, hard work and persistence that we both have taken away from your camp.  It is this type of program which emphasizes those traits in life which you can't learn just by playing soccer.  These are things that carry over in life as well as business down the road.

Beth Anne Nesselt - 2008
Mother of Alexandra and Brooke, Campers at Landon School in Virginia
Just a brief note to express our appreciation for a GREAT week of camp at Landon.  The girls didn't want the week to end and enjoyed every minute of it.  Please convey our gratitude to your fine coaching staff.  The evaluations are probably one of the best, and most comprehensive, I have seen and the girls are busy working non-stop when they come inside -- diving headers off the stairs, powerful throw-in's from across the dining room and pk's using the fireplace as a goal.
Please thank the coaches for taking the time to so thoroughly capture all the info on the evaulations -- from drawing diagrams to illustrate key concepts, personalizing them while infusing them with positive comments and suggestions...they are priceless.  The camp was exceptional from the very organized and enthusiastic check-in until the conclusion of World Cup on the last day.  Your staff is simply the best.  thank you for a great soccer start to the summer and we're telling everyone about the No. 1 Striker Camp!
Michael Rosenbaum - 2008
Camper at Wright State University in Ohio
My name is Michael Rosenbaum, and I have just recently completed your striker program.  I just wanted to say, thank you.  I have learned more about the game and about the attack philosophy here then I have ever learned in all of my life together.  I came into the camp a little nervous, maybe even intimidated, but left smarter, better, faster, stronger, more confident, and most importantly, STARVING for goals.  I feel much more confident and ready to play and take my game further to the next level.  I hope I can come back nex year and continue my journey.  Thank you once again.
Kim Sanderson - 2008
Mother of Audrey, Camper at Darlington School in Georgia
I write you to thank you.  I honestly believe that due to your No. 1 Soccer Camps that my daughter, Audrey, has attended for the past two summers at Darlington School has lead to a wonderful opportunity that I felt necessary to share.  Audrey was scouted at a tournament in MO recently and approached to attend a regional training camp in Texas for the id2 program with US Club Soccer.  This is an invitation-only event.  The regional camps have been described to me as a way to identify and develop the country's best players for inclusion in US Soccer's youth national team programs.  I feel that your program and your passion for the No. 1 campers to develop into the best, has paid off the Audrey.  Thank you and we will be back this coming summer!
Chris Durkin - 2008
Camper At Blue Ridge School in Virginia
This was the first residential camp I had been to and I can't wait to go back.  I went with a lot of my teammates from the Richmond Kickers, which made the experience even better.  By far, this was the most challenging and rewarding soccer camp I have been to.  The coaching was great, and I really learned what I needed to improve from the coaches written evaluation.  Overall, it was an awesome soccer experience.  Oh yeah, the food was great as well.
Kyle Merritt - 2008
Father of Matt, Camper at Western Connecticut State University
My son, Matt Merritt has attended you camp for two years now, having just completed the camp at Western CT State University here in Danbury, Ct.  Matt has grown, both as a person, and as a player, and I want you to know hom much my wife and I appreciate the impact you have had upon him.  He has more confidence, and with the skills and attitudes taught at you camp, he should be even better this year.  His High School season is right around the corner, and he is eager to take the field, and compete.

Everything about your camp is first class, and top notch.  The evaluation, which is extensive, is a terrific way to end things, and it has helped us to pinpoint the exact things that we should be concentrating on, as Matt tries to better himself.  We enrolled him last year for the first time, and were so impressed that this year, we brought three neighborhood boys with us, and the boys even carpooled to and from every day, and they all had a terrific time, and learned so much.

Brent and Elena Campbell - 2008
Parents of Kendrick, Camper at Fountain Valley School in Colorado
Kendrick has attended your camps for 5...or is it 6 years running now, both in Dallas and Colorado Springs.  I agree with the other parent who commented that the evaluations are umatched.  Kids who are serious about hard work, and stringent, attentive coaching will not be dissappointed with this program.  It's not cheap, but well worth it for serious players who intend to play at the college level.  Thank you for an excellent summer program.
Brian Deaton- 2008 (former camper-1981)
Father of Erik - Second Generation Camper at West Nottingham Academy in Maryalnd
I attended the No. 1 Goalkeeper Camp in 1981 is St. Petersburg, Fl prior to attending my senior year in high school.  I went on to play Div 1 College soccer at Marshall University in Huntington, WVA.  After my college career I continued my involvement in the game as a player/coach and now a referee.
My son (Erik) attended the recent No. 1 Camp at West Nottingham Academy.  He has been playing keeper for the past 4 seasons albeit not full time.  He made a decision entering this spring season that he wanted to dedicate himself to being a goalkeeper to which I was thrilled.  As we began to talk about how to evolve his game to the next level, Erik asked about attending a soccer camp.  I immediately told him if he was serious about golakeeping there was only one camp to attend and it was Joe Machnik's Gaolkeeper Camp.  At the time I told him that I had no idea if in fact the camp was still around, but after a very quick google search I got that answer.
Erik quizzed me on what made this camp so good and I basically told him that you will learn more in 1 week about being a goalkeeper than you thought was possible.  I also told him that if he was going to go to this camp that he had better be in the best physical condition possible because it was a demanding/grueling/difficult camp but so rewarding.  As I played keeper well into  my 30's i still utilize numerous techniques that I was taught at camp back in 1981, in fact they became routine.
Erik started a summer league last night and I could tell at the outset of the game the influcence that the No. 1 Camp had on him both in his command of the position as well as his technique.  He could see the confidence he now brings to the position that was not apparent prior to attedning camp.
In closing just wanted to thank everyone involved in No. 1 Camps for providing not only myself some 26 years ago but my son with an experience that helped my career and will help Erik's career beyond what can be imagined.
Savannah McDonald - 2008
College Prep Camper at University of Dallas in Texas
Thank you for all you do at camp...  I just wanted to let you know that I attended several goalkeeper camps over the summer, many college camps, and none were even close to the standards of No.1.  The effort put forth from staff from evals to practice was by far the highest I had seen.  The attention given to each player was unique, genuine, and helpful.  I just wanted to also let you know that thanks for all of the hours that you spend on that camp because I have been looking forward to coming back since the day that I left.
Sandy Haltiwanger - 2007
Mother of Katie, Camper at University of Dallas in Texas
I just wanted to write a note of endorsement for No.1 Soccer Camps. Katie was absolutely ecstatic with the experience. She left with much more self-confidence. Her passion for the game reached new heights as well! What she enjoyed most about the camp was that everything she was taught was new to her! It was not like every other camp she had attended, where the curriculum consisted of doing drills and performing skills she had already acquired. She was pushed to new limits and thoroughly enjoyed it! I can't tell you how happy that makes us (her parents) feel!
The final camp evaluation was spot on and only reinforced previous recommendations made by those who have seen her play for several seasons. This attests to your staff's ability to accurately identify strengths and areas for improvement in each camper.

Kitty Mason
Kelly's teammate didn't have a shot so he passed it up to Kelly who was to the right side of the net. She got it and shot it, a nice curving ball. The other team had one player who got a shoulder on it but it went right in the net. A minute later the whistle blew and we had won! The kids were so excited! I know your camp helped Kelly make that goal. She really enjoyed your camp and felt like she learned a lot even though she normally plays center-mid. She felt good about herself today because she became a striker and helped her team win.
The whole team played well together and they still have a lot of growing to do, but all of them are excited now about the coming games. Thank you for your camp and the time you give to kids in teaching them to shoot goals. I hope more of our players can come to your camps in the coming years.
Debbie Pecheux
My 14 year-old son Andrew loves to wear his No. 1 Soccer Camps t-shirt. Last summer he went to the goalkeeper camp and it was fantastic -  the best soccer camp he had ever been to - and he’s gone to quite a few! Recently, he wore his No. 1 Soccer Camps t-shirt at his birthday party with his friends where they went go-carting. The manager saw his shirt and told us that he had gone to No. 1 Soccer Camps 20 years ago and they were awesome - the best he had ever gone to. It's impressive that people that went to No. 1 Camps 20 years ago still want to talk about how great they were. Seems like you’ve been running quality camps ever since. Thanks - see you next summer!
Darlene Lyons
Mother of Garrett, Camper at George School
My son, Garrett, is returning to No 1 camps for his 5th year. Before coming here, he attended another national camp company. The experience was such that he had no interest in returning. He has done No 1 keeper camp for 2 years, academy for 2 years & now will be returning for the 2 week college prep camp. His keeping skills continue to improve as does his understanding of the position, attitude & his confidence. As much as the kids complain about pressure training, keep it up.  During playoffs for his high school team, (his team was out shot 3-1) he would have lost his composure had it not been for pressure training. The last half of that playoff game for 1st place would have been a shelling but instead was in his words just like pressure training. Final score, 2 to 1. The opposing coach said his team had never come up against a keeper that could stop so many of his teams shots. Keep up the good work. My son is proof that this camp works. Thank you.
Jeff Bruemmer
Father of Camper at George School

The staff was very professional in all aspects. I felt my son was in a structured (and that's good) atmosphere where he could learn and I felt he was well cared for. I sat in on a lot of the night sessions and was very impressed with the energy and enthusiasm that was generated by the staff.
Carolyn Hayford
Today my son Nathan came home from your Academy camp in Rome, GA. As information, your camp is in his words the best camp ever.
Jim Darr
Stacey really enjoyed the camp. She worked very hard and learned a great deal. She has this awesome move now where when I come at her 1 on 1 to steal the ball from her, it's like she dances up on top of the ball, and then spinning as she comes over the top, so that she ends up on my side of the ball with her back to me! This shields me from the ball completely and she instantly changes directions and skirts around me.
Please compliment and thank all the coaches for me. They did a terrific job. This was Stacey's third year at your camp and was her best experience ever. She is on fire to practice all the moves you taught her!
As a father, I want to thank you for keeping my daughter safe and for giving her a great learning experience while she was in your care.
Kelly and Del Creviston
We just wanted to send a quick note to extend our appreciation for the outstanding job your coaches did during our son's stay for the Striker Mini Session at the Darlington School in Rome, GA. Derek actually wanted to stay longer. He talked the entire drive home (almost two hours) about how much he learned and what a great experience it was. Aside from teaching soccer skills, your coaches and staff provided a safe and comfortable environment to allow our young player to have a very positive experience.   Thank you for all your efforts.
Mark Sargent
My daughter has attended a number of camps in the past, but none of them compared to yours. After the first day, I asked how she liked it, and she said that she learned more in the first day than she did in the entire week of the last residential camp she attended. I watched a number of the training sessions, and could not have been more impressed. You guys know how to do it right!  Thank you, and we'll see you next year.
